In the Beginning

Montrose is located in Genesee County, located in Michigan.  It was established in 1847, and the township was known as Pewonigowink Township.  The Pewonigowink Township was derived from the Pewonigowink Indian Reservation, of the Saginaw Chippewa.  In 1948, the name of Montrose Township was born, by an act of the Michigan Legislature.

Fast Forward to Present Times

Back in April of 2017, Montrose Township broke ground on a new public safety complex.  It was designed to house the police department, fire department and administration.  The Township did this because of the growth potential of the local area.  According to the 2017 US census, Montrose currently has 5,946 residents.  In 2018, Montrose City moved to a new location to better service the citizens and businesses in the city.
